donegal decorative stone

Muckish Quarry is located in the town land of Carrownamaddy, on the foothills of Muckish Mountain. Underlain by meta-sedimentary rocks which are assigned to the Creeslough Succession of the Lower Dalradian. The rock was originally deposited about 600 to 700 million years ago.

The rock is Quartzite and belongs to the Ards Quartzite Formation. Quartzite is a metamorphosed clean Quartz Sandstone, used for the manufacture of aggregates for concrete construction, road making material and building stone.

Muckish Gravel is a beautiful multicoloured decorative stone with hints of red, pink and beige notes running through it. Aesthetically enhancing driveways, pathways, flowerbeds and garden landscapes throughout Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK. Available in a range of sizes to suit our customer’s requirements.

Aesthetic Appeal

Gravel driveways have a special appeal as they blend in with the Irish landscape and offer many aesthetic and functional benefits. The rustic charm enhances the natural beauty of rural and urban homes alike, a beautiful entrance that suits contemporary and traditional architecture. The sound gravel makes under foot.

Eco- Friendly

Muckish Gravel is a naturally accruing product with no need for non renewable resources like cement or asphalt to be added.

Durability

Muckish gravel being a tough hard wearing quartz stone is proven to last many years. The truth is that it can last a lifetime with regular and proper maintenance.

Frost heaving, a common problem for other materials is not a concern with gravel. Frost heaving happens when water goes through the material, freezes, and then expands due to extreme cold weather. This causes materials like concrete to crack. Fortunately, this doesn’t happen with gravel.

Permeability

Due to a gravel driveway’s porous nature, water drainage is not an issue. It allows water to flow into the ground unlike other materials.

Since it allows water to dissipate into the ground, a gravel driveway is very eco-friendly.

Easy Installation

Step 1 – Remove the existing base.

Step 2 – Create a sub-base.

Step 3 – Lay weed membrane.

Step 4 – Calculate the amount of gravel required.

Step 5 – Lay your gravel.

Low maintenance

  • One of the biggest drawbacks of asphalt and concrete is the amount of professional maintenance and repairs that they require. These materials are often susceptible to stains, cracks, divots, and other blemishes.
  • Gravel, on the other hand, isn’t vulnerable to the same kinds of damage. In fact, gravel maintenance typically consists of evening out the surface and raking stray chips back into place.
  • Unlike asphalt and concrete, your gravel driveway or parking lot doesn’t ever require scrubbing or sweeping.
  • The occasional rainfall will wash the majority of dirt and debris away.
